Art

Grandview's art program fosters a creative learning environment where students engage in meaningful projects, collaborative art, and inquiry-based learning. Students explore art materials, techniques, artists, and art history to spark new ideas for their own designs and creations. In our art room, students are explorers, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and learn how to express themselves through multiple forms of art making.

Character Education

Character Education is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. We are a Leader in Me school!  Through engaging lessons and meaningful projects, students are learning and using the 7 habits to be successful in all parts of their lives.  Character Counts and the GRAND Agreements are also utilized to create a well rounded Character Education program at Grandview!

Physical Education

Physical Education is a gateway that provides children with skills that enable them to lead physically fit lifestyles. Encouraging our youth to be active is very important for modern health reasons. They also need to appreciate the health benefits of being active. Students need to be successful in all the basic stability, locomotor and manipulative skills for future implications of activity. David Gallahue best defines physical fitness as: Positive state of well being, influenced by regular vigorous physical activity, genetic makeup and nutrition adequacy. I am a strong believer in the fact that children will not exercise and stay fit if they are not properly skilled or prepared to do so.

My role as a physical educator is to facilitate a positive learning experience for all my students by helping every child succeed and find his/her strength in physical activity. Every student that leaves my program should have a better understanding of self worth and how one goes about improving it. I will strive to enhance the lives of my students through activity and movement. Grandview Elementary School Physical Education program, includes the development of movement skills, health-related fitness, and personal and social responsibility, for all k – 5th Grade Students.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

  • Provide an opportunity to participate in sport and physical activities without regard for high performance skill or ability.
  • Provide activities in a safe and professionally supervised environment.
  • Nurture healthy competition, enjoyment, fair play and teamwork.
  • Establish a student-centered program that considers the needs and interests of all students.
  • Enhance social interaction and reduce student conflict.
  • Provide opportunity for co-ed physical activity participation.
  • Provide opportunities for students to experience a variety of physical activities that will contribute to an active lifestyle and enhance their leisure time.

Music

It is a deeply held belief at Grandview that all students are musical. Our program provides a wide range of modalities for students to experience, play and create music. Grandview strives to incorporate and expand upon the Colorado Music Standards and implements the teaching approach of Orff Schulwerk which integrates music, movement, speech, and drama to help students develop musical literacy. Students are encouraged to take risks, explore new ideas, and to express themselves in an environment that is rigorous and fun.
