Garden Club

The Grandview Elementary School Garden is an outdoor classroom where teachers can enhance the delivery and understanding of core curriculum subjects in the form of hands-on gardening

School gardens give students and community a broader understanding of the natural world and their food sources; promote environmental stewardship and deep bonds with nature; and give students a sense of connectedness to the eco-system that includes them and the community.

Studies show that experiences in the garden infinitely improve students' knowledge about and attitudes toward eating vegetables and increase their consumption of these foods. A 2007 Texas A&M study with 6th graders found that time in the garden increased their servings of fruit and vegetables by 2 1/2 servings per day; then there's the physical activity from work outside that affects wellness.

Gardens teach students tolerance, agriculture, how to nourish ourselves, importance of stewardship, appreciation for natural systems observation, critical and independent thought, achievement of life skills, encouragement of community and social development, and sense of place.

  • Students will participate in all aspects of sustainable gardening from planning and planting to harvesting and eating!
  • The garden is a place where students can learn about good food choices, build a love of nature, have social experiences with their peers and teachers, and develop an awareness of local ecology and the environment.
  • Teachers can integrate gardening into subjects, such as math, science, social studies, reading, writing, and art.
  • When the garden produces enough, it will be used in the school cafeteria.

The goal of the Grandview Elementary School Garden is to establish a network of teachers, students, parents, and other community specialists to create an educational and fun environment for all of us to learn.

Eagle Leadership

Giving students at Grandview an opportunity to lead beyond their classroom walls! The Grandview Eagle Leadership Council (ELC) is a student-led organization that empowers young leaders to make a difference within our school and community. We believe in fostering, developing, and empowering student leadership through hands-on learning opportunities and by building meaningful connections with others. The ELC provides students with the chance to take on leadership roles that extend beyond academics, cultivating skills that will serve them for years to come.

Our Why:

At Grandview, we are committed to developing the next generation of leaders by offering opportunities for students to grow, lead, and positively impact those around them. Through the ELC, students gain valuable experiences that not only shape their leadership abilities but also help create a stronger, more connected community.

Our Focus:

  • Community Service Projects: We engage in meaningful projects both within our school and in the surrounding community to give back and make a positive impact.
  • 7 Effective Habits: Students learn and apply Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, using them to guide their decisions, actions, and interactions on a daily basis.
  • GV Activity Support: ELC members play an active role in supporting school-wide events, such as the Art Show, Music Productions, Dudes & Donuts, Muffins with Mom, Veterans Day Celebration, and more, creating memorable experiences for everyone.
  • GV Internal Support: Our student leaders assist with a variety of in-school activities, including serving as lunchroom helpers for Kindergarten and 1st-grade students, providing assembly support, acting as mentors, and assisting with bus duties, among other responsibilities.

Running Club

Grandview Running Club is open to all 3rd–5th grade students who want to run or walk for health, fun, and friendship! This club is a great way to get moving and stay motivated. Each session, students run or walk as many laps as they can around the back school yard—each lap equals 0.25 miles. We track laps, convert them into miles, and celebrate progress throughout the season. Many participants run or walk 2–3 miles per session. Runners and walkers set personal goals and work hard to crush them. It’s amazing to see how proud they are as they reach new milestones. Plus, our awesome teacher Running/Walking Buddies join in each session to cheer students on and help keep the energy high.

We offer two seasons—Fall and Spring—with two time options: Monday afternoons or Wednesday mornings before school. Come join the fun, make friends, and move your body with Grandview Running Club!
